A really interesting prompt for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday: Authors I Haven’t Read, But Want To. Oh, where to begin?!
According to a survey conducted for Literary Hub, prolific writer Emily Temple found out that at the age of 25, a super reader, a rockstar bookworm who can comfortably go through 80 books a year, with a long life expectancy will finish somewhere around 4,560-4,880 books before they die.

One of the interesting problems with engaging with readers on their blogs and ‘Book Twitter’, is that so many people are reading so many books. Lots of them sound fantastic, and it’s sometimes daunting to realise that I am never, ever going to have the time to read all of them, even if I live a long, long life. There are, however, some authors who I have every intention to read at some point.
In no particular order, here are my top ten:
- Fodor Dostoevsky – since read ‘Crime and Punishment’
- James Patterson – since read ‘Along Came a Spider’
- Karin Slaughter – since read ‘Blindsighted’
- Val McDermid
- Harlan Coben – since read ‘The Woods’
- Dean Koontz
- Ayn Rand
- Lee Child
- John Green
- Chuck Palahniuk

I’m a huge Karin Slaughter fan. “Pieces of Her” is probably my least favourite stand-alone of hers though. I recommend pretty much anything else by her, except the Grant County series.

I read some books by Karin Slaughter in a series but I kind of got bored of them. Maybe I’ll try another mystery by her in the future. Just not in that series.

The only author on your list whose work I’ve read is Ayn Rand, and (for me) it wasn’t worth the time I spent reading it. I know reading tastes vary, though. I hope you enjoy whatever books you decide to pick up!

My favorite Val books are the Karen Pirie ones.

Once you read Dostoevsky you will be hooked. I’ve read Crime and Punishment and The Brothers Karamazov. After reading these books, everything else pales. John Green is a great contemporary writer.

Dostoevsky is a great one, I’ve read The Brothers Karamazov but would really like to read Crime and Punishment as well! Hope you get a chance to read these!

I’d move John Green up the list and I would suggest that you read his most recent book The Anthropocene Reviewed. It is fantastic!

I had a look at those one, but it appears to be essays. Am I better off reading a few of his novels first?

I see so many people on Instagram saying they read 20+ books in a month, and I’m always in awe – HOW DOES ONE DO THAT? But I’ve also come to realize, that’s not going to be me and that’s ok. 🙂 Despite him not being a favorite author, I did actually read John Green’s TFIOS.
