Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme that was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
After banning myself from requesting any more books on NetGalley in January (unless, of course, I absolutely NEED to have them), I’m slowly working my way through my TBR (To Be Read) pile. I’m doing well with ticking off my NetGalley books, but I’ve still got a pile of physical books waiting to be read.
I’ve got books lent to me from friends and family, books that I absolutely had to buy and books that I’ve won in competitions.
Help me out here, please! Which of these ten books should I move to the top of my pile, and which should I return to their owner or send to the charity shop?
1. ‘The Fraction of the Whole’ by Steve Toltz
2. ‘Portrait of a Thief’ by Grace D. Li
3. ‘The Twins’ by Saska Sarginson
4. ‘Untamed by Glennon Doyle’
5. ‘The Silent Companion’ by Laura Purcell
6. ‘Good Girl, Bad Blood’ by Holy Jackson
7. ‘The Last Runaway’ by Tracy Chevalier
8. ‘Harklights’ by Tim Tilley
9. ‘On Beauty’ by Zadie Smith
10. ‘The Secret History’ by Donna Tartt

I haven’t read any of these books, but I wish you luck with your decisions. Good for you for trimming down your TBR!

I read the Last Runaway last summer and loved it. Tracy Chevalier is such a good storyteller.

Thanks for the recommendation, Darlene. I completely forgot that I had this one until I had a good look at my bookcase today.

Only read one but it is brilliant. Secret History should move straight to the top of TBR pile

I think that this one’s been on my shelf for about 10 years now, Sally! I don’t know why I haven’t got around to it yet but I’ll shuffle it up the list.

The only one I’ve read was The Secret History, but I definitely felt like it was overhyped. I hope you get around to reading these sooner rather than later!

It’s been on my shelf for so long that I can’t remember what the premise was. I’m going to have to have a look at it again, I think!

I’ve only read The Silent Companions and it was great. Well worth a read. Far more spooky than I was anticipating, but an excellent book. I didn’t realise that Silent Companions were actually a real thing and I think that made it more spooky!
Have a great week!

I’m glad you enjoyed it, Emily. I only got it with my Caboodle points, but I certainly didn’t know it was a true story. I’m intrigued now!

The Silent Companions themselves are real, the story is then made up. It is freaky!

I haven’t read any of these so I can’t say which one you should or shouldn’t read. But if you can, read a sample of the book and then decide.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Have a lovely day.

The only book I’ve read off this list is GOOD GIRL, BAD BLOOD. The whole trilogy is great!
Happy TTT!

I have a weird relationship with the Good Girl series. I loved the first book, and though the second book was very good, it took such a dark turn. I struggle with that and never finished the series.

I haven’t read any of these, but I’m curious about Portrait of a Thief. It doesn’t sound like anything I’ve read before.
Thanks for stopping by my TTT earlier!

Love your bookends!!! So, I’ve only read Untamed from this stack and I did not like it! I have heard really good things about Portrait of a Thief though.

It’s a book that Adele was raving on about – apparently transformed her life. I must of felt up for that when I bought it!

I have seen many people who loved it, so you might too!

Zadie Smith is an author that I really want to read from, hopefully, I’ll get to one of their books soon. I hope you enjoy all of the books on this list when you get to them!

I’ve read The Secret History and I enjoyed it without thinking that it was anything absolutely incredible. I have also read On Beauty but so long ago now – when it was published and I remember nothing about it.

Can’t say I’ve read any of these, but I do have a copy of The Last Runaway (and I’ve read one other book by the author), so I hope that turns out to be a good one. Good luck!

Have you read anything else by Tracy Chevalier. I have recently read “The Last Runaway” and its just as fantastic as all her other books. And Zadie Smith also writes great books, I liked “On Beauty” as much as her other novels. I’d start there.
Thanks for visiting my TTT this week.

The Secret History is one of my all-time favorites, though it’s been a long time since I read it. It’s kind of a love or hate book, so hope you love it! I’ve heard great things about Portrait of a Thief.

Totally know what you mean about limited yourself with review copies. I never really got into NetGalley (I don’t care for e-reading). But I did go through a period where I requested SO many books. Some where kindly sent to me, and some I didn’t receive, but it was a bit overwhelming for a while. Hope you enjoy all of these if you do read them! And thanks for visiting Finding Wonderland on this week. Apologies it took this long to visit here.
